The Harris campaign is actively focusing on boosting support Kamala Harris from various male voting blocs, particularly Black and Hispanic men, through targeted initiatives. One key strategy is the creation of groups like “Hombres con Harris,” or “Men with Harris,” aimed at mobilizing Hispanic male voters. In the final weeks before Election Day, Harris has introduced a new policy rollout specifically designed to energize Black men to vote.
To build on this effort, the campaign plans to organize gender-specific events such as “Black Men Huddle Up,” where prominent Black male celebrities will join NFL and NCAA football watch parties in critical battleground states. The campaign will also launch testimonial ad campaigns featuring influential local Black male voices to resonate with voters in these key regions.
According to Cedric Richmond, the co-chair of Harris’ campaign and a former congressman, Harris’ economic vision prioritizes equipping Black men with the tools needed to succeed—whether it’s achieving homeownership, launching a business, or building wealth.
While Black Americans strongly supported Joe Biden in 2020, Harris’ advisers are focused on ensuring high voter turnout rather than fearing significant voter loss to Trump. Former President Trump, meanwhile, has increased efforts to win over Black and Hispanic voters through roundtables with Black entrepreneurs and town halls, seeking to appeal to these key demographics.
Harris’ new set of proposals includes a pledge to distribute 1 million forgivable loans, each up to $20,000, to Black entrepreneurs and others with strong business ideas. These loans will be facilitated through partnerships between the Small Business Administration and community-focused banks and leaders. Another key element is offering federal incentives to encourage more Black men to become teachers, as currently, they represent only slightly more than 1% of public school educators. Harris intends to expand loan forgiveness programs to make teaching a more accessible career path for Black men.
Additionally, her plan seeks to broaden apprenticeship programs in Black communities through partnerships with groups like the National Urban League, local governments, and private sector companies.
Recognizing the growing interest in cryptocurrency among Black men, Harris has pledged to advocate for a strong regulatory framework to protect investors in digital assets, an area that has become increasingly popular within the community. She also commits to creating a national initiative to address health issues like sickle cell disease, diabetes, prostate cancer, and mental health, all of which disproportionately affect Black men. This initiative will aim to increase funding for research, early detection, and treatment of these conditions.
A recent poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows that 7 in 10 Black voters hold a favorable view of Harris, with little difference between support levels among Black men and women. Many voters prefer Harris’ stance on key issues such as the economy, healthcare, and immigration, especially when compared to Trump’s policies.
This latest policy push is a clear attempt to keep Black men engaged and motivated as the campaign nears Election Day, ensuring that this pivotal voting bloc remains active in the democratic process.
